五感を使って、生地に染料を引きながら色を重ねていく、染めの体験
[Activity] Traditional Japanese Hand Dyeing
Hikizome is a traditional Japanese dyeing technique in which fabric is suspended in the air and layers of colour are applied by drawing dye across the surface with a brush. Within these simple movements, the artisan’s sensibility and experience are revealed, and even when the same colours are used, each person’s work takes on a different expression.
In this workshop, participants observe a demonstration by a skilled craftsman, then carefully learn the fundamentals of handling dyes and brush techniques while blending their own colours to dye an original scarf.
The finished piece may be collected after drying and fixing, or delivered by post.
